Tiger Shroff Shooting Incident Renews Concerns Over Bollywood Celebrities’ Security

Tiger Shroff is safe after a shooting incident, but conflicting accounts of his injuries have raised concerns. From Rohit Shetty and Salman Khan to Rakesh Roshan and Gulshan Kumar, a look at attacks targeting Bollywood personalities.

Tiger Shroff is safe after a shooting incident, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg, who said the actor was neither shot nor injured. However, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered a different account of the actor’s injuries after meeting him, saying Shroff had sustained injuries to his left hand from gunpowder and glass fragments, while his driver was also injured.

“Tiger Shroff is safe. He was not shot and has not been injured,” DCP Mohit Garg said.

After meeting Shroff, Shinde told the media, “Tiger Shroff narrowly escaped unharmed. His driver sustained injuries, and this incident is condemnable. I met the actor and spoke with him. He sustained injuries to his left hand from gunpowder and glass fragments.”

The incident has triggered criticism from opposition parties, which have questioned the law and order situation in Maharashtra. The Congress and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said the state’s Chief Minister had failed to provide security to ordinary citizens.

The following incidents highlight attacks and alleged attempts on the lives of Bollywood personalities in recent years.

Filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area was targeted in a shooting incident late on January 31, 2026. Police said the attack was carried out by the Shubham Lonkar gang, with the alleged objective of extortion and creating fear.

Investigators subsequently arrested several suspects in connection with the case. In October 2026, Pradeep Kumar, alias Gath, was arrested in Agra by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch.

In September 2025, unidentified gunmen opened fire outside the ancestral home of Disha Patani’s father, Jagdish Patani, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

The Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gangs claimed responsibility for the attack on social media. According to reports, the gang described the shooting as a warning issued after alleged remarks by Disha Patani’s sister, Khushboo Patani, about spiritual leaders.

Two attackers linked to the incident were subsequently killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad.

In April 2024, shots were fired outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. The chargesheet filed by the police mentioned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s name multiple times in connection with the case.

Members of the Bishnoi community consider the blackbuck sacred. Salman Khan was accused of hunting two blackbucks during a film shoot nearly 20 years ago. According to the police, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was angered by the incident.

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan survived an attempt on his life on January 21, 2000, when two unidentified gunmen opened fire outside his office in Mumbai. He was shot in the hand and chest but survived the attack.

The shooting took place after the success of the film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, which marked the debut of his son, Hrithik Roshan. Rakesh Roshan was reportedly targeted after refusing to pay extortion money.

In an interview with the BBC’s Karan Thapar, Hrithik recalled the shock of learning about the shooting at a time when his debut film was attracting attention.

“He had been shot in the chest and hand. I remember he called me because he was worried about whether I was okay,” Hrithik said. He added that his father feared other members of the family could also be in danger.

Filmmaker Rajiv Rai, known for directing films such as Gupt, also faced a dangerous situation in 1997, when five attackers allegedly linked to the Abu Salem gang attacked him in central Mumbai.

Rai was leaving his office when the attackers opened fire. Following earlier threats, he had been provided with bodyguards by the police for protection. The bodyguards intervened, confronted the attackers and managed to drive them away. One of the attackers was reportedly injured during the incident.

The film industry also witnessed the killing of film producer Mukesh Duggal on March 7, 1997. He was shot dead at his office in Andheri. His murder raised questions about the safety of people associated with the film industry.

On August 12, 1997, T-Series head Gulshan Kumar was murdered outside a temple in Mumbai.

According to reports, Gulshan Kumar had been asked by the underworld to pay extortion money every month, but he refused to comply.

The attacks on Bollywood personalities, spanning shootings, alleged extortion attempts and targeted killings, have repeatedly brought the security of film industry figures into focus. The latest incident involving Tiger Shroff has renewed questions about the protection available to celebrities and the wider law and order situation.
