The protesters broke through police lines during the march, calling for the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission exam to be cancelled over alleged irregularities, paper leaks and a lack of transparency.
Police deployed water cannons near JP Golambar and Dak Bungalow Chowk as the situation escalated. Some protesters were also detained as students attempted to reach the Chief Minister's residence.
One protester stressed the need for the examination to be re-conducted, citing wider concerns over fairness in the recruitment process. The concerns also include issues related to the Teacher Recruitment Examination.
DSP Kamakhya Narayan Singh said authorities would prevent the protesters from advancing further but expressed hope that discussions with the protest leaders would help calm the crowd.
The protest has brought renewed focus on the students' demand for the cancellation and re-conduct of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission examination, with protesters continuing to raise concerns over alleged irregularities, transparency and fairness in recruitment examinations.
