Police Inspector Shields Sukhbir Badal from Sword Attack at Nanded Gurdwara
A Special Protection Unit inspector shielded Sukhbir Badal during a sword attack at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur near Nanded. Kendre suffered a hand injury while Badal sustained a slash wound.
Badal was visiting the gurdwara with his family when a Nihang in his early 60s launched the assault. Kendre, who was part of the Special Protection Unit, blocked the attack and suffered an injury to his hand, while Badal sustained a slash wound.
Both Kendre and Badal were taken to Yashosai Hospital for treatment and are stable.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal saluted Kendre for protecting Sukhbir Badal, describing him as a “human shield” following the attack.
The incident at the religious site drew condemnation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders, who denounced the attack.
The assault has brought attention to the security response that prevented a more serious attack on Sukhbir Badal during his visit to the gurdwara. Kendre’s intervention left him injured while shielding Badal, with both subsequently receiving medical treatment and remaining stable.
