India Auto Industry Records Strongest-Ever July Sales as Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers Surge

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 34.3 per cent year-on-year to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, compared with 3,40,772 units in the same month last year.

Overall monthly production across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles stood at 33,70,958 units in July 2026.

SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said the industry had recorded its strongest-ever July sales, with double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.

He said the positive momentum had continued for several months as the industry entered the festive season, with expectations of strong consumer sentiment.

The three-wheeler segment recorded a 33.4 per cent increase in domestic sales, rising to 92,560 units in July 2026 from 69,403 units a year earlier.

Within the segment, passenger carrier sales increased 32.9 per cent to 77,994 units, while goods carrier sales rose 40.3 per cent to 12,896 units.

E-rickshaw sales increased 7.5 per cent to 1,132 units, while e-cart sales rose 16.2 per cent to 538 units.

The two-wheeler segment also registered strong growth, with domestic sales rising 22.6 per cent to 19,23,483 units in July 2026 from 15,69,120 units in July 2025.

Motorcycle sales increased 20.7 per cent to 10,74,796 units, while scooter sales rose 23.7 per cent to 7,98,190 units.

Moped sales recorded the highest growth within the two-wheeler segment, increasing 48.6 per cent to 50,497 units.

The record July performance across key vehicle categories comes as the automobile industry enters the festive season, with the latest SIAM figures reflecting sustained momentum in domestic sales.
