Arvind Kejriwal Questions Meta After Instagram Account Restricted in India, Alleges Bias

Arvind Kejriwal questioned Meta after his Instagram account was restricted in India and later restored. He alleged a lack of transparency and accused the company of acting under government pressure, while Meta has not publicly responded to his claims.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has raised serious questions over social media company Meta, alleging that his Instagram account was placed under a restriction in India without any clear explanation from the company. Although his Instagram account has now been restored, Kejriwal said Meta neither clarified the reason behind the restriction nor explained how the issue could be resolved. He publicly expressed his dissatisfaction over the matter through a post on social media platform X.

In his post, Kejriwal tagged Meta and Meta India and questioned why his Instagram account had been restricted in India. He said he attempted to seek clarification verbally from the company's India office, but no satisfactory response was provided. He further stated that despite sending emails, he received only formal replies, while the actual issue remained unresolved.

During the controversy, Kejriwal also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that Meta was functioning under pressure from the government. According to Kejriwal, if social media companies do not operate impartially, public trust in them will decline. However, he did not share any official documents or technical information to support his allegations.

The controversy surfaced just days after Meta faced scrutiny in another incident involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A Facebook post by the Prime Minister was temporarily restricted due to a technical issue. Later, a senior Meta official described the incident as a technical error, restored the post, and publicly apologized. Referring to that episode, Kejriwal questioned why the company had remained silent in his case despite restoring his Instagram account.
