Crime Branch officials caught Revanna using a mobile phone inside his cell during a surprise raid at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on August 11. The officials also seized a charger, a pen drive and a notebook from the high-security barrack where he was lodged.
The seized mobile phone and pen drive were subsequently sent for forensic analysis. The report has now revealed dozens of porn videos on the phone and web series stored on the pen drive.
Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, is serving a life sentence after being convicted in a rape case. He is lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Bengaluru.
Revanna was convicted last year on charges of rape and circulating videos of the sexual assault on a 48-year-old woman.
The woman, who worked as a domestic help at the Revanna family's farmhouse in Holenarasipura in Hassan district, had alleged that Prajwal Revanna repeatedly raped her since 2021. She alleged that he recorded the act and threatened to release the videos if she told anyone about it.
The recovery of the mobile phone from Revanna's cell led authorities to suspend a jail official and order a probe into the incident.
Personal mobile phones, SIM cards and electronic communication devices are universally banned inside prisons. Permitted communication is restricted to heavily monitored institutional landlines, public call offices (PCOs) or designated video-calling systems.
The forensic findings have added another development to the case involving the jailed former MP, following the discovery that he had been using a mobile phone inside the high-security prison.
