UIDAI Makes Aadhaar Email Update Service Free for Six Months, Bringing Major Relief to Millions

The Unique Identification Authority of India has announced that Aadhaar holders can update their registered email address free of charge for six months starting July 1. Earlier, a fee of Rs 75, including GST, was applicable for the service. The temporary waiver is expected to benefit millions by making essential Aadhaar updates more accessible and affordable.

In a major relief for Aadhaar card holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a new circular announcing that the email update service linked to Aadhaar will be provided free of cost for a limited period. The decision is expected to benefit millions of people who need to update their registered email address without paying any service charge.

Under the new arrangement, UIDAI has waived the fee for updating the email address in Aadhaar from July 1 for the next six months. During this period, Aadhaar holders will be able to register or update their email ID without paying any charges.

Until now, individuals were required to pay a fee of Rs 75, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), to update their email ID in Aadhaar records. With the implementation of the new circular, this charge has been completely waived for the six-month period.

The latest decision by UIDAI is expected to encourage more Aadhaar holders to keep their contact information updated while reducing the financial burden associated with the mandatory update process. The temporary waiver of the email update fee marks a significant administrative initiative aimed at making Aadhaar-related services more accessible to the public.
