LPG Cylinder Rules Revised as New Consumer Regulations Take Effect to Strengthen Delivery Verification

The government has implemented major changes to LPG cylinder regulations, including revised booking intervals for urban and rural consumers, mandatory OTP verification during delivery, e-KYC compliance requirements, and new provisions for customers shifting to PNG connections. The measures aim to prevent fraudulent deliveries, curb misuse, and improve transparency in LPG distribution.

A series of new regulations governing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders has come into effect, introducing significant changes for consumers as the government moves to tighten delivery verification and curb misuse. The revised framework includes stricter booking intervals, mandatory authentication during delivery, and updated provisions for customers shifting to Piped Natural Gas (PNG).

Under the new regulations, consumers residing in urban areas will be allowed to book their next LPG cylinder only after a gap of 25 days. For consumers in rural areas, the interval for a second cylinder booking has been fixed at 45 days.

The government has also made One-Time Password (OTP) verification mandatory at the time of LPG cylinder delivery. Consumers must provide the OTP to complete the delivery process. In addition, failure to complete the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process could affect an LPG connection, making compliance essential for existing consumers.

The revised rules also introduce changes for consumers opting for PNG connections. Customers who switch to PNG will have the option to surrender their LPG connection or obtain a transfer voucher within 30 days, providing a structured process for the transition.
