Egg Attacks on Former TMC Leaders Amid Corruption Allegations in West Bengal
In West Bengal, former TMC leaders Sabyasachi Dutta and Ujjal Biswas faced mob attacks involving eggs, tomatoes, and cow dung amid corruption allegations and arrests. The incidents during police escort to court highlight rising public anger, political unrest, and accusations linked to extortion and misuse of government relief materials in the state.
A wave of public outrage erupted in West Bengal on June 9 as two former leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) were attacked by angry crowds with eggs, rotten tomatoes, and cow dung while being escorted under police protection following serious corruption allegations and arrests.
In the first incident, Sabyasachi Dutta, the former TMC chairman, who was arrested on charges of allegedly extorting over one crore rupees, was brought under heavy police escort to a court. During his transit, a mob gathered and hurled eggs, rotten tomatoes, and cow dung at him, expressing public anger over the allegations against him.
Rebel TMC MP June Maliah allegedly told TMC workers to teach BJP workers a lesson after the polls.

Later the same day in Krishnanagar, another former TMC leader, Ujjal Biswas, was subjected to a similar public attack. Protesters targeted him with eggs and other objects while accusing him of stockpiling government tarpaulins that were meant for flood-affected victims. He was arrested later that night following the allegations.
Both incidents unfolded amid heightened political tension in the state, with the accused leaders claiming that the charges against them were politically motivated. Law enforcement personnel were deployed to control the situation and ensure the safe movement of the accused individuals to legal proceedings.
The incidents reflect a sharp escalation in public hostility toward former political figures in the state, occurring in the aftermath of the TMC’s 2026 election setback, amid a broader atmosphere of corruption allegations and administrative scrutiny.
