Wedding Calendar Window Opens Briefly After Intercalary Lunar Month Ends; Chaturmas to Restrict Ceremonies Again in 2026

The intercalary lunar month ends on 15 June 2026, reopening a short window for auspicious weddings starting 21 June before Chaturmas begins on 25 July 2026. Limited marriage muhurats are available in June and early July, with restrictions again during religiously inauspicious periods, impacting traditional ceremonies and planning schedules across the calendar.

The intercalary lunar month, commonly known as the Purushottam month or Malmas, observed in the Hindu calendar system, is set to conclude on 15 June 2026. During this period, traditional belief holds that no auspicious or ceremonial activities such as weddings, engagements, housewarming ceremonies, tonsure rituals, or naming ceremonies are performed.

With the conclusion of this month, normal auspicious timings for ceremonial functions resume. However, there is no immediate availability of favorable wedding timings after the end of this period. The first auspicious wedding muhurat is scheduled for 21 June 2026, marking the reopening of the ceremonial calendar for marriage rituals.

Subsequent auspicious wedding dates are recorded on 22 June, 23 June, 24 June, 25 June, 26 June, and 27 June 2026. Additionally, 29 June 2026 is also identified as a favorable date for wedding ceremonies.

In July 2026, further auspicious marriage dates are available on 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12 July. However, this limited window closes as the Chaturmas period begins on 25 July 2026, a traditionally inauspicious phase during which marriage and other major religious ceremonies are generally avoided.

Although the Bhadhra Navami date is traditionally regarded as an “abhyudaya muhurat,” meaning an automatically auspicious day that does not require detailed astrological matching, it falls on 22 July 2026 this year. Despite its traditional significance, weddings are not expected to take place on this day due to the specific astrological condition that the Jupiter (Guru) star will be in a combust or inauspicious state, which is considered unsuitable for marriage ceremonies.

This sequence of limited auspicious dates between the end of the intercalary month and the onset of Chaturmas creates a narrow ceremonial window for weddings in mid-2026, significantly impacting traditional marriage planning cycles.
