India Crush Afghanistan by an Innings and 300 Runs to Register Biggest Test Victory in History

India registered the biggest Test victory in its history by defeating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in New Chandigarh. Debutant Manav Suthar starred with seven wickets and earned Player of the Match honours as India recorded its 186th Test win and surpassed West Indies on the all-time victories list.

India scripted history with a commanding innings-and-300-run victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test at New Chandigarh, recording the largest win in the nation's Test cricket history. The emphatic triumph surpassed India's previous biggest Test victory, an innings-and-272-run win against West Indies in Rajkot in 2018.

The match concluded on the third day when Afghanistan were bowled out for 112 in their second innings. Earlier, India had declared their first innings at a formidable 564 for 8. In response, Afghanistan were dismissed for 152 in their first innings and were forced to follow on after conceding a massive deficit.

In Afghanistan's second innings, Washington Sundar led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed three. Debutant Manav Suthar and Mohammed Siraj picked up one wicket each. Suthar had earlier produced a remarkable performance in the first innings, taking six wickets. He finished the match with seven wickets overall and was named Player of the Match for his outstanding contribution.

The victory marked India's 186th Test win in 599 matches. With this achievement, India moved ahead of West Indies in the list of teams with the most Test victories. West Indies have recorded 185 wins from 592 Test matches. Only Australia, England and South Africa remain ahead of India on the all-time list.

India's innings-and-300-run triumph also became the second-largest innings victory achieved by an Asian team in Test cricket. The only larger victory remains Pakistan's innings-and-324-run win against New Zealand in the Lahore Test in 2002.

For Afghanistan, the defeat was the heaviest in their Test cricket history. Their previous biggest loss had also come against India, when they were beaten by an innings and 262 runs in Bengaluru in 2018.

Afghanistan's second-innings total of 112 became the third-lowest score in their Test history. The team had previously been dismissed for 103 and 109 against India in 2018.

Manav Suthar's figures of 6 for 33 in the first innings ranked as the second-best bowling performance by an Indian bowler on Test debut. The record remains with Narendra Hirwani, who claimed eight wickets against West Indies in 1988.

Suthar also became the 10th Indian bowler and the seventh spinner to take five or more wickets on Test debut. He is only the second Indian cricketer this century to register a five-wicket haul in a debut Test innings after Amit Mishra, who achieved the feat against Australia in 2008.

His figures of 6 for 33 also stand as the second-best bowling performance against Afghanistan in Test cricket. West Indies spinner Rakeem Cornwall holds the record with figures of 7 for 75.

India's historic victory not only established a new national benchmark in Test cricket but also highlighted the depth of the team's bowling resources, with debutant Manav Suthar emerging as one of the defining performers of a record-breaking triumph in New Chandigarh.
