Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Creates History: India's Youngest-Ever Men's Team Selection at Just 15

Sooryavanshi dominated the IPL season and finished with five major individual awards to his name. He secured the Orange Cap for scoring the highest number of runs in the tournament and was also named Super Striker of the Season, Super Sixes of the Season winner, Most Valuable Player, and Emerging Player of the Season. His extraordinary performances made him one of the most talked-about young cricketers in the country.

Following such a historic IPL campaign, expectations were high that Sooryavanshi would earn a place in the national team. The selection committee, sitting for its first squad announcement after the IPL, rewarded the young batter with an immediate entry into Team India.

With his selection, Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player ever selected for the Indian men's cricket team. The record was previously associated with legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who was selected for India's tour of Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16. Tendulkar made his Test debut on November 15, 1989, at the age of 16 years and 205 days, establishing himself as India's youngest debutant in men's international cricket at the time.

That milestone was later surpassed at the international level by Indian women's cricketer Shafali Verma. She made her international debut in a T20 International against South Africa on September 24, 2019, when she was just 15 years and 239 days old.

As of June 6, 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is 15 years and 71 days old. He is now part of India's squad for the Ireland and England tour scheduled from June 26 to July 11. During the tour, India are set to play seven T20 International matches.

If Sooryavanshi receives an opportunity to make his international debut in any of those matches, he will enter international cricket at an age of up to 15 years and 107 days, potentially establishing yet another remarkable record in Indian cricket history.
