Police Diary Reveals Pellet Gun Use in Delhi Youth Protest Crackdown Details

A police diary entry from July 20 reveals details contradicting Delhi Police’s denial over pellet gun use during the Jantar Mantar protest crackdown, as an RAF probe finds Cforce unjustified.

A police general diary entry from July 20 has contradicted the Delhi Police’s denial, confirming that Rapid Action Force personnel fired two anti-riot gun rounds loaded with plastic pellets during the Cockroach Janta Party’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march at Jantar Mantar.

The diary entry revealed that the use of the pellet guns was carried out on the orders of a senior officer as police personnel responded to the youth protest. The demonstration was held amid anger over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, which forced over two million students to retake the exam.

The protesters were demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the controversy. During the crackdown, more than 80 protesters were injured, including four who suffered pellet wounds.

Following the incident, an RAF probe examined the use of force and later found the action unjustified. The probe also resulted in a ban on the use of such weapons in Delhi.
