India’s Solar Capacity Surges to 155 GW in 12 Years, Says Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said India’s solar capacity has grown from 2.8 GW to 155 GW over the past twelve years. More than four million homes now use solar energy, while solar adoption in agriculture has doubled. India is rapidly advancing toward its goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity.

India has witnessed a remarkable expansion in its solar energy sector over the past twelve years, with the country’s solar power capacity increasing from 2.8 gigawatts to 155 gigawatts, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Saturday.

In a post on social media, Shekhawat highlighted the rapid growth of renewable energy infrastructure across the country and underscored the government's commitment to sustainable development. He stated that more than four million homes across India are now illuminated through solar energy, reflecting the growing adoption of clean power solutions.

The minister further noted that solar capacity in the agricultural sector has doubled, describing it as clear evidence that economic progress and environmental conservation can advance together. He emphasized that Indian farmers are no longer solely providers of food but have also emerged as producers of energy through the increasing use of solar power systems.

Shekhawat said the government remains focused on expanding solar energy generation nationwide, with the objective of transforming every rooftop into a source of solar power, every household into an energy hub, and every agricultural field into a center of energy production.
