Brother Arrested in India Over Murder of Melbourne Teacher Sunil Sharma After Alleged Confession
Melbourne-based teacher Sunil Sharma, aged 66, went missing in India after travelling to sell property for retirement. Police have arrested his brother Sunny Sharma, who is accused of murder and allegedly confessed to disposing of the body in a river with his son. The body has not yet been recovered as investigations continue.
According to information provided, Sunil Sharma had travelled to India to sell two properties with the intention of returning to Australia and settling into retirement. His sudden disappearance raised alarm among family members, who described the situation as suspicious. They further stated that his brother, Sunny Sharma, was the last person known to have seen him alive.
Two weeks after Sunil Sharma was reported missing, Indian police charged Sunny Sharma with his brother’s murder. Investigators allege that Sunny Sharma confessed to killing Sunil Sharma and disposing of his body in a river, with assistance from his son. Following the alleged incident, both accused individuals reportedly went on the run.
Despite the confession claims, authorities have not yet confirmed whether Sunil Sharma’s body has been recovered from the river. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues search and recovery efforts while pursuing further legal action against the accused.
The case has drawn serious attention due to the cross-border nature of the victim’s residence in Australia and the alleged crime in India, as well as the unresolved status of the deceased’s remains, leaving critical questions unanswered in an already disturbing investigation.
