Modi Visits L&T Hazira Complex, Highlights India’s Defence and Nuclear Manufacturing Push
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Larsen & Toubro Hazira complex near Surat, reviewing indigenous defence systems, nuclear engineering components, and green hydrogen technology. He also inaugurated major infrastructure projects worth ₹18,800 crore, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in defence, energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex of Larsen & Toubro near Surat, Gujarat, in a high-profile tour showcasing India’s expanding indigenous defence and advanced engineering capabilities. The visit underscored the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening domestic manufacturing in strategic sectors.
During his inspection of the facility, the Prime Minister reviewed a range of indigenous defence systems under development and production. These included components of the K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzer, transmission systems for infantry combat vehicles, and the 25-tonne Zorawar light tank designed for high-altitude operations. The showcase highlighted the growing capacity of Indian industry in producing complex military hardware within the country.
Modi also acknowledged Larsen & Toubro’s contribution to India’s nuclear energy infrastructure, including the development of a 700 MWe steam generator intended for projects under the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited. He further reviewed advancements in green hydrogen technology being developed at the complex, positioning the facility as a key hub for next-generation clean energy engineering.

The visit came in the backdrop of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strong performance in recent local elections. During the tour, the Prime Minister also inaugurated infrastructure projects worth ₹18,800 crore, reinforcing the government’s focus on large-scale development and industrial expansion.
Addressing the broader industrial landscape, Modi highlighted Surat’s rapid rise as a major manufacturing and engineering centre, while reaffirming the importance of strengthening domestic capabilities in defence, nuclear technology, and clean energy. He also countered criticism of India’s self-reliance strategy, reiterating confidence in the country’s industrial and technological progress.
