Rodriguez is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day. The discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of India–Venezuela relations, including energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, health care, transportation, and renewable energy, with a focus on expanding avenues of cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Rodriguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day visit aimed at deepening bilateral engagement. The Ministry also extended a formal welcome on X, noting that the visit would help build on the growing momentum in India–Venezuela relations. During her stay, the visiting delegation will tour multiple sites connected to the energy, pharmaceutical, and automotive sectors to gain insights into India’s technological and industrial capabilities and to explore collaboration opportunities.
According to the MEA, India has remained an important partner for Venezuela in the energy and investment sectors. Indian public sector undertakings have made significant investments in Venezuela’s energy industry and continue to explore opportunities to expand their presence further.
The MEA further highlighted that India and Venezuela share warm and friendly relations, supported by cooperation in energy, trade, and a shared commitment to the Global South. The ongoing visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen engagement across multiple sectors.
Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president on January 5 after the United States attacked the South American nation and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
The high-level visit is seen as a significant step toward reinforcing diplomatic engagement and expanding strategic cooperation between New Delhi and Caracas.
