India Secures Multiple Medals at Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, Sets New Records Across Track Events
India delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, winning gold, silver, and bronze across key track events. Mogali Venkatram secured gold in the men's 800m, while relay teams set championship and national records, boosting India’s qualification hopes for the World Under-20 Championships in Eugene, USA.
Mogali Venkatram led the Indian charge by clinching the gold medal in the men’s 800 metres, securing India’s first gold in the event at this year’s championship and reinforcing the nation’s growing strength in middle-distance running.
In the relay competitions, the women’s 4×400 metres team comprising Bhumika, Tahura, Sehnoor, and Neeru produced a standout performance, winning the gold medal and setting a new championship record with a timing of 3 minutes 38.07 seconds.
India’s success continued in the women’s 4×100 metres relay, where the quartet of Kajal, Bhavana, Aarti, and Nipam secured the silver medal. The team also established a new junior national record after finishing the race in 45.05 seconds.
In the men’s 4×400 metres relay, Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar, and Mohammed Ashfaq delivered a strong effort to claim the bronze medal. Their performance also resulted in a new junior national record with a timing of 3 minutes 5.54 seconds.
The championship is serving as a qualifying event for the World Under-20 Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place in Eugene, Oregon, United States, from August 5 to August 9, further underlining the importance of these performances on the global stage.
The results reflect a significant rise in India’s Under-20 athletics standards, with record-breaking performances and multiple medals across both individual and team events highlighting the country’s depth in emerging track talent.
