Amruta Fadnavis Drives Pink E-Rickshaw as Maharashtra Launches Women-Led Green Mobility Program
Amruta Fadnavis drives a pink e-rickshaw at the launch of Maharashtra’s Women-Led Green Mobility Program by Bhamla Foundation. The scheme supports women aged 20–50 with loans, subsidies, training, and maintenance aid, promoting zero-emission transport and financial independence ahead of World Environment Day, with Bhumi Pednekar in attendance and mixed public reactions.
The program is designed to provide e-rickshaws to women from low-income backgrounds, particularly targeting individuals aged between 20 and 50, including widows and divorced women. Under the scheme, financial support is structured through 70 percent bank loans, 20 percent state subsidies, and additional contributions covered by non-governmental organizations for beneficiaries in need.
Alongside financial assistance, the initiative includes structured training programs, licensing support, and maintenance assistance to ensure long-term sustainability and operational independence for women participants. The broader objective of the program is to strengthen women’s self-reliance while contributing to environmentally responsible urban transport solutions, particularly in the run-up to World Environment Day.
Actor Bhumi Pednekar also participated in the event alongside Amruta Fadnavis, highlighting public and cultural support for the initiative. However, reactions on social media remained divided, with some users praising the program for its environmental and empowerment focus, while others criticized it as a publicity-driven exercise.
The launch underscores a growing intersection between environmental policy and gender-focused welfare initiatives, positioning women-led mobility as a key component of future urban transport planning in Maharashtra.
