Supreme Court Grants Vinesh Phogat Relief, Allows Participation in 2026 Asian Games Selection Trials

The Supreme Court granted wrestler Vinesh Phogat permission to participate in the 2026 Asian Games selection trials scheduled for May 30 and 31. The order was passed by a bench of Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe while hearing the Wrestling Federation of India’s challenge against the Delhi High Court decision.

New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat received major relief from the Supreme Court after being allowed to participate in the selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games. The trials are scheduled to be conducted on May 30 and 31.

The order was passed by a bench comprising Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe during the hearing of the matter linked to the Wrestling Federation of India’s challenge against an earlier Delhi High Court decision.

The Wrestling Federation of India had approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court order that had already granted permission to Vinesh Phogat to take part in the trials. The apex court upheld the relief, clearing the way for the celebrated wrestler to compete in the upcoming selection process.

During the proceedings, Justice P.S. Narasimha acknowledged the achievements of Vinesh Phogat and remarked that she was an outstanding wrestler who had made the country proud. At the same time, the court stressed the importance of national interest, with the judge stating, “You are a fantastic wrestler. You have made the country proud, but the country comes first.”
