Startup India Push Drives DPIIT-Recognised Ventures Beyond 1.57 Lakh

India’s startup ecosystem witnessed major growth as DPIIT-recognised startups crossed 1.57 lakh by the end of the previous year. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha that Startup India initiatives launched since 2016 continue to drive entrepreneurship, while District Export Action Plans have been prepared for 590 districts to strengthen decentralised export promotion.

The number of startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has crossed one lakh fifty-seven thousand by the end of the previous year, reflecting the rapid expansion of India’s startup ecosystem under the Startup India initiative.

Providing details in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada stated that the government has undertaken several initiatives for the effective implementation of Startup India since the programme was launched in 2016. The measures were aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship, encouraging innovation, and supporting emerging enterprises across sectors.

In another reply placed before the Lok Sabha, the minister said District Export Action Plans have been prepared for 590 districts across the country. The initiative forms part of the government’s strategy to decentralise export promotion activities and expand export-driven economic participation at the district level.

The latest figures underline the government’s continued focus on startup growth and regional export expansion, with policy-driven efforts targeting entrepreneurship development and localised economic opportunities across the nation.
