Tata Motors Prepares Major AWD SUV Offensive in India with Multiple Upcoming Electric and ICE Models
Tata Motors is set to expand its AWD SUV lineup in India with multiple upcoming electric and ICE models including Sierra EV, Safari EV, Sierra ICE AWD, and Avinya X. The new range will feature dual-motor AWD systems, premium interiors, advanced technology, and performance-focused engineering aimed at adventure and long-distance driving.
The upcoming lineup is designed to go beyond urban commuting, targeting customers who prefer long road trips, mountain driving, and adventure-focused travel while retaining modern comfort, premium features, and advanced technology.
The expansion begins with the Tata Sierra EV, which is expected to be among the first new-generation SUVs to feature an AWD configuration. The electric SUV is likely to be launched within the next few months and may be offered in both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor AWD variants. The AWD version is expected to use two electric motors to deliver improved traction and enhanced performance. Positioned between the Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev in Tata Motors’ electric portfolio, the Sierra EV is expected to feature premium specifications including a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, large infotainment displays, and advanced safety systems.
Tata Motors is also developing the Tata Safari EV, an all-electric version of its flagship SUV, which is expected to be launched around the festive season later this year. Similar to the Harrier.ev, the Safari EV is likely to be offered in both rear-wheel-drive and AWD configurations. The dual-motor AWD variant is expected to produce nearly 390 horsepower, positioning it among the most powerful SUVs in the company’s electric range. The model is aimed at large-family SUV buyers seeking electric mobility, extended driving range, and premium comfort. It is also expected to include multiple terrain modes, a panoramic sunroof, advanced driver assistance systems, and a suite of modern connected features.
The company is further preparing the Sierra ICE AWD, an internal combustion engine version of the Sierra, which is expected to arrive in 2027. This model is likely to be offered with petrol and diesel engine options, with AWD systems reserved for higher-performance turbocharged variants. The Sierra ICE AWD is expected to focus on highway touring and adventure driving rather than extreme off-road capability. With its retro-inspired exterior design and modern interior layout, it is positioned to become one of the brand’s most anticipated launches.
In addition, Tata Motors’ Avinya range is being developed as the company’s premium electric vehicle line, featuring a completely new design language and futuristic cabin architecture. The Avinya X, expected to launch in 2027, will be a large electric SUV-coupe likely to offer both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor AWD configurations. The AWD variant is expected to prioritize long-distance travel capability, performance delivery, and an elevated premium driving experience.
Together, these upcoming models underline Tata Motors’ aggressive strategy to strengthen its presence in the AWD SUV segment while expanding its electric and premium vehicle portfolio in India.
