Indian Air Force Introduces Direct Technical Officer Recruitment Through GATE Scores
The Indian Air Force has launched a new recruitment scheme for its Technical Branch in the Officers Cadre through valid GATE scores. Eligible candidates will receive direct shortlisting for Air Force Selection Board testing without appearing for the AFCAT preliminary written examination, while existing educational qualifications remain unchanged.
The Ministry of Defence stated that candidates possessing a valid GATE score will now be directly shortlisted for testing at the Air Force Selection Boards. Under the newly introduced scheme, eligible applicants will not be required to appear for the preliminary written examination, including the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT).
Officials said the recruitment process under the new system will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit. The ministry further clarified that the educational qualifications for entry through the GATE score route will remain identical to the existing eligibility criteria prescribed for Technical Branch recruitment through AFCAT.
The decision marks a significant shift in the Indian Air Force’s officer recruitment framework and is aimed at simplifying the selection process for engineering graduates seeking entry into the Technical Branch. The new scheme is also expected to strengthen the induction of technically skilled candidates into the Officers Cadre through a more streamlined and merit-based mechanism.
