TMC Panchayat Leader Arrested for Extortion After Allegations of Lavish Mansion and Threats Surface

Prasenjit Saha, TMC Block President and Deputy Chief of Bandipur Panchayat, was arrested by Rahara Police for alleged extortion and threats. The arrest follows complaints from the previous regime and public backlash over his lavish “glass palace” residence, amid intensified anti-corruption actions after the BJP’s 2026 electoral victory.

Prasenjit Saha, Deputy Chief of Bandipur Panchayat in North 24 Parganas and a Trinamool Congress Block President, has been arrested by Rahara Police on charges of extortion and criminal intimidation. The action was taken following multiple complaints filed against him during the previous Trinamool Congress administration.

The arrest comes amid heightened political scrutiny after videos of Saha’s multi-storey residence surfaced online. The property, described by critics as a “glass palace mansion,” has drawn attention for its stark contrast with his officially declared modest income, intensifying public outrage and political debate over alleged misuse of power.

According to official sources, the complaints against Saha include allegations of extortion and issuing threats to individuals over an extended period. Law enforcement authorities initiated proceedings based on documented grievances submitted prior to the recent change in political power.

The development follows the Bharatiya Janata Party’s landslide victory in the April 2026 state elections, which ended fifteen years of Trinamool Congress rule. The political shift has triggered a wider crackdown on alleged corruption cases, including accusations related to unlawful collections commonly referred to as “cut money” from welfare schemes.
