Storm Alert Across 11 States as Weather Shifts; Monsoon Likely to Reach Kerala Within 48 Hours
Severe weather conditions are set to impact 11 states as the India Meteorological Department issues alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds and rainfall across Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy rain, hailstorms and dust storms are likely, while the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala within 48 hours, offering relief from intense heatwave conditions.
In Bihar, heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for several districts, including Katihar, Purnia and East Champaran. Wind speeds between 50 and 70 kilometres per hour are expected in these areas. The weather department has advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions amid the possibility of severe weather activity.
Rajasthan is also expected to witness a significant change in weather conditions. Dust storms and light rainfall are likely in several areas, including Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Jodhpur. According to forecasts, the impact of the changing weather pattern is expected to be most intense between May 29 and May 31.
In Himachal Pradesh, alerts for rainfall and strong winds have been issued until May 29 for Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra. Uttarakhand is also likely to experience unstable weather conditions in areas such as Chamoli, Ranikhet and Champawat. Hailstorms are possible in several locations. In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar and nearby hilly regions may receive light to moderate rainfall. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious due to strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Despite rainfall forecasts in multiple states, heatwave conditions continue to affect several regions. Jaipur recorded a temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, while Bhopal registered 42 degrees Celsius and Delhi recorded 41 degrees Celsius. The weather department stated that temperatures may gradually decline in many areas after May 28. Rainfall and strong winds are expected to provide relief from the ongoing extreme heat across northern and central India.
The developing weather system has raised concerns over sudden storms, hail and strong winds in vulnerable regions, while also offering hope of relief from prolonged heatwave conditions. With the monsoon expected to advance towards Kerala soon, weather activity across the country is likely to intensify further in the coming days.
