In a public message issued amid intensifying heat conditions, Modi advised people to carry drinking water while stepping outdoors, regularly check on elderly family members and neighbors, and remain cautious of symptoms such as dizziness, dehydration, and nausea. He also appealed to citizens to place water bowls for birds and stray animals suffering due to the extreme temperatures.
The India Meteorological Department has warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist over central, northwestern, eastern, and peninsular parts of India for the next few days. According to the weather agency, relief is expected to begin from May 29, when temperatures are forecast to decline by 2 to 8 degrees Celsius in several affected regions.
The prolonged heatwave has already caused a growing public health crisis across the country. More than 300 suspected heatstroke cases and at least 16 deaths have been reported during the current heat season. Authorities stated that children, elderly citizens, and outdoor workers remain the most vulnerable groups as temperatures continue to soar.
Modi’s message received widespread appreciation on social media for emphasizing public awareness, community care, and protection of animals during the extreme weather conditions. At the same time, several citizens and environmental voices called for broader long-term measures, including large-scale tree plantation drives and stronger climate resilience initiatives to address recurring heatwave threats.
