Renault Bridger SUV Confirmed for India Launch in 2027; Design Patents Filed as Development Gains Momentum
Renault India has confirmed the Bridger SUV launch for 2027, with design patents filed as of May 25, 2026. Positioned between the Kiger and Duster, the SUV will target the sub-four-meter lifestyle segment with new turbo petrol engines, modular platform architecture, and a price range of ₹9–14 lakh.
The Renault Bridger will be positioned strategically between the Renault Kiger and the newly launched Renault Duster, targeting the rapidly growing demand for rugged, sub-four-meter lifestyle SUVs. It is being developed as Renault’s direct response to competitors such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming Mahindra Vision S concept-based lifestyle SUV.
The new SUV will be underpinned by the Renault Global Modular Platform, also known as RGMP, which also supports the next-generation Duster. This architecture has been engineered to deliver improved structural rigidity and enhanced capability on rough terrain. The platform is compatible with a four-wheel-drive drivetrain system; however, it remains unconfirmed whether the Bridger will receive this feature at launch.
On the performance front, the Renault Bridger is expected to arrive with multiple powertrain configurations. The company is reportedly developing a new 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine for this subcompact SUV. This engine is expected to be a derivative of the 1.3-litre TGDi petrol unit used in the Duster, featuring a reduced stroke configuration.
The new engine will utilize a cost-efficient multi-point fuel injection system instead of the direct injection technology found in the 1.3-litre unit. This change is expected to make the engine compatible with compressed natural gas fuel options. In addition, the SUV may also be offered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, paired with both manual transmission and continuously variable transmission options.
According to the development timeline, the production-ready version of the Renault Bridger is expected to be unveiled in early 2027. A near-production model is likely to make its debut at the 2027 Delhi Auto Expo, with the official market launch anticipated by mid next year. The expected price range for the SUV is between ₹9 lakh and ₹14 lakh, ex-showroom.
Once launched, the Renault Bridger will compete in a highly competitive segment, taking on established and upcoming rivals including the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, the Maruti Brezza, and the Mahindra Vision S concept-based lifestyle SUV.
The introduction of the Bridger marks a crucial step in Renault’s India strategy, strengthening its presence in the compact SUV market while expanding its portfolio in the fast-growing lifestyle vehicle category.
