Rape Accused Given Hero's Welcome After Bail in Uttar Pradesh, Viral Video Sparks Outrage
Sushil Prajapati, a former Hindu Yuva Vahini member accused of raping a law student, was given a hero's welcome after securing bail from Ghaziabad jail in Uttar Pradesh. Viral videos showing flower garlands, slogans, and a celebratory roadshow have triggered outrage, while police investigate the public procession and convoy of supporters.
Shortly after his release on May 17, following nearly nine months in custody, Prajapati emerged dressed in white and draped in multiple marigold garlands. In scenes resembling a victory procession, supporters carried him on their shoulders, raised slogans, and accompanied him in a convoy of vehicles through the area.
The viral footage captured jubilant supporters shaking hands with the accused, smiling, and flashing victory signs. Several people were also seen holding up their mobile phones to record the procession, while others enthusiastically celebrated his release.
According to the allegations, Prajapati took the law student to a flat under the pretext of introducing her to a lawyer. It is alleged that he then raped her inside the premises.
The case has drawn renewed public attention after the release of the videos, which showed supporters treating the accused as though he had achieved a significant triumph rather than facing serious criminal charges.
Police said they are investigating the viral videos, including the scenes of supporters showering Prajapati with flowers and participating in the vehicle convoy.
The incident has sparked sharp criticism and raised serious concerns about the public glorification of individuals accused of grave offences, even as legal proceedings in the rape case continue.
