Silver Lotus Crafted by Jammu Jeweller Rinku Chauhan to Honour BJP’s Historic Victory in West Bengal
Rinku Chauhan, a BJP jeweller from Jammu, crafted a three-kilogram silver lotus over two months to honour the party’s historic victory in West Bengal. The artwork is intended for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, symbolising 15 years of political aspiration and dedication. BJP secured 206 seats in the 294-member Assembly.
Chauhan stated that he had waited 15 years for the “lotus to bloom in Bengal,” referring to the BJP’s long-standing political ambition in the state. To mark this moment, he dedicated two months of continuous effort, often working through nights, to meticulously shape three kilograms of silver into the party’s symbolic lotus emblem.
“This silver lotus represents the resilience and dedication of BJP workers like me,” Chauhan said. He further added, “We wanted to gift something special to Prime Minister Modi, who has been the inspiration behind this victory. Nothing can be better than the party symbol.”
His wife, Anjali Chauhan, highlighted the personal commitment behind the creation. She recalled that he would often skip meals while fully immersed in the craftsmanship, devoting himself entirely to perfecting every detail of the silver structure.
The final creation is described as an intricately designed silver lotus, entirely handmade, reflecting both artistic precision and political symbolism. Chauhan now hopes the artefact will be placed either at the Prime Minister’s residence or at the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in Delhi as a lasting reminder of the electoral achievement in West Bengal.
The political backdrop of this gesture is significant. For over 15 years, West Bengal was governed by the All India Trinamool Congress under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a prominent critic of Prime Minister Modi. The recent election results marked a decisive shift in the state’s political landscape.
Out of the 294-member Legislative Assembly, the majority mark stood at 196. Results were declared for 293 constituencies on Monday, while repolling was scheduled for the Falta seat in South 24 Parganas district on May 21. Counting for this seat is set for May 24, as announced by the Election Commission of India.
In the declared results, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 206 seats, establishing a strong majority. The All India Trinamool Congress won 81 seats. The Congress secured two seats, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) won one seat, while the AISF and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party secured one and two seats respectively.
The handcrafted silver lotus stands as a symbolic tribute to a defining electoral outcome, reflecting both personal devotion and the broader political shift in West Bengal.
