Kieron Pollard Fined After Code of Conduct Breach as Mumbai Indians Edge Punjab Kings in IPL Thriller
Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during a match against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. Meanwhile, MI secured a thrilling six-wicket win, chasing 200 with one ball to spare in a high-pressure contest.
According to an official statement issued on Friday, Pollard was found guilty under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, which pertains to the use of audible obscenity during a match. The incident occurred during the 19th over of the second innings, when Pollard reportedly directed abusive language towards the fourth umpire.
As a result of the Level 1 offence, Pollard has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and has also received one demerit point, formally adding to his disciplinary record within the league’s monitoring system.
On the field, Mumbai Indians produced a tense and high-scoring chase, overhauling Punjab Kings’ total of 200 to reach 205 for four in 19.5 overs, sealing victory with one ball remaining. The result marked Punjab Kings’ fifth consecutive defeat under captain Shreyas Iyer, further weakening their position in the playoff race.
Punjab Kings had earlier posted 200 runs, powered by a rapid 57 off 32 balls from Prabhsimran Singh and a late surge from Azmatullah Omarzai, who scored 38 off 17 deliveries. However, their innings suffered a middle-order collapse, triggered by a decisive bowling performance from Shardul Thakur, who returned figures of four for 39 for Mumbai Indians.
In response, Mumbai Indians began strongly with Ryan Rickelton striking 48 off 23 balls. Tilak Varma then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 75, delivering a composed and decisive innings under pressure. He was supported by a quick cameo from Will Jacks as Mumbai Indians edged closer to the target before sealing the match with a six on the penultimate delivery.
The match combined disciplinary scrutiny off the field with a tightly contested finish on it, highlighting both the intensity of competition and the strict enforcement of conduct regulations within the tournament.
