Rubio to Visit New Delhi Next Month After ‘Productive’ White House Talks with Vikram Misri
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit New Delhi next month after a productive White House meeting with Vikram Misri, focusing on trade, defence, Quad cooperation, and global issues, amid parallel US diplomatic efforts involving Iran and Pakistan ceasefire talks.
Misri, who is on a three-day visit here, met Rubio to review the bilateral relationship, with discussions focusing on trade, critical minerals, defence, and the Quad. The meeting underscored the expanding strategic convergence between the two nations across key sectors.
“Welcome to the White House @VikramMisri! Productive meeting with @SecRubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defence and the Quad,” US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who was also present at the meeting, posted on X. He added that Secretary Rubio looks forward to visiting India next month.
Echoing this sentiment, the Indian embassy in the US stated, “We look forward to deepening our engagement in these important sectors and much more to strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.”
During his visit, Misri also held separate meetings with US Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, reinforcing high-level diplomatic engagement on multiple fronts.
“Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today in Washington. The leaders reaffirmed the close partnership between the two countries and shared news about the situation in the Persian Gulf and other global and regional priorities,” Principal Deputy Spokesman for the Department of State Tommy Pigott said in a statement.
According to the Indian embassy, Misri and Landau discussed bilateral priorities and exchanged assessments on regional and global developments of mutual concern, reflecting alignment on critical international issues.
Hooker stated that her discussions with Misri focused on strengthening cooperation in security, defence, and the economy. “We are finding practical ways to make both Americans and Indians safer and more prosperous, including through the Quad,” she said. The Indian embassy added that both sides reviewed progress on the India-US bilateral agenda since the Foreign Office Consultations held la
st December, while also sharing assessments on recent developments in West Asia and other regional issues of mutual interest.
In a parallel development, US Vice President J D Vance is leading a delegation to Islamabad for talks with Iranian leaders after the warring sides agreed to a two-week Pakistan-brokered ceasefire.
Rubio’s upcoming visit, set against a backdrop of intensified diplomatic activity and evolving regional dynamics, signals a continued push to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership across strategic, economic, and geopolitical domains.
