Pawar Family Wealth Disclosed in Baramati By-Poll Affidavits, Political Stakes Intensify
Election affidavits reveal Supriya Sule as the richest in the Pawar family, ahead of Sharad Pawar and Sunetra Pawar, as the Baramati by-poll intensifies into a high-stakes political contest testing legacy, wealth, and electoral strength ahead of voting on April 23.
According to the affidavits, Supriya Sule has family assets worth Rs 167 crore, nearly three times higher than Sharad Pawar’s declared assets of Rs 61 crore. Sunetra Pawar, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, follows with assets worth Rs 122 crore.
These disclosures have emerged amid the nomination process for the Baramati by-poll, fueling a broader political debate framed as “family versus wealth” in the election. Voting for the Baramati assembly seat is scheduled for April 23, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
Regarded as one of the most prestigious political constituencies in Maharashtra and a long-standing Pawar family stronghold, the Baramati seat has evolved into a high-stakes contest testing political legacy, emotional bonds, and competing development models.
Earlier this week, Sunetra Pawar filed her nomination papers to contest from the Baramati seat, setting the stage for a direct contest against Congress candidate Akash More. Addressing the electorate, she stated, “Every citizen of Baramati is a member of my family. I will never leave you feeling alone. The development of Baramati will continue to proceed at a rapid pace, just as it has in the past.”
Sunetra Pawar’s husband, Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash in late January, had secured the Baramati seat eight consecutive times, underscoring the constituency’s deep-rooted
political legacy.
Initially, there were calls for Sunetra Pawar to win unopposed. However, the entry of the Congress party has established a direct electoral contest. The by-poll also carries added political weight as Sunetra Pawar had recently lost the Lok Sabha election from Baramati to her sister-in-law, Supriya Sule.
The unfolding contest in Baramati now stands as a defining moment for the Pawar family’s political dominance, with wealth disclosures, legacy claims, and electoral rivalry converging in a closely watched battle that could reshape the constituency’s future trajectory.
