Mini Cooper Crash in Goa Kills 23-Year-Old Woman, Driver Taken Into Custody Amid Allegations of Probe Blackout
A 23-year-old woman died and her colleague was seriously injured after a Mini Cooper crash in Goa. Driver Darius Dias has been taken into custody as the victim’s family alleges lack of transparency and a “complete blackout” in the ongoing police investigation.
Police said Diksha Parwadkar and D Arunkumar, who worked at a five-star hotel in Goa, were returning home on a bike on Sunday night when the Mini Cooper hit the two-wheeler on the Bambolim-Dona Paula road, near Manipal Hospital. The impact threw Diksha and Arunkumar off the bike, with some reports stating that the two-wheeler was flung about 50 m from the point of impact.
The two were rushed to a hospital, where Diksha succumbed to her injuries, while Arunkumar remains under treatment for serious injuries.
Darius Dias, the 21-year-old son of a local businessman, was driving the Mini Cooper at the time of the accident and has been taken into custody. He is the son of Andrew Dias, a businessman who owns a bakery and hotels in Goa. The car involved in the crash had a temporary number plate, indicating that it had not yet been registered in Goa. Some reports also noted that the Mini Cooper was recently purchased, with its doors bearing ribbons typically seen on new vehicles.
Police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death by negligence. According to a report in the Goan newspaper O Heraldo, the victim's family has alleged a lack of transparency in the investigation and accused the police of a “complete blackout” regarding the probe.
The incident has intensified scrutiny over road safety and accountability, as questions continue to mount over the handling of the investigation and the circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
