Mumbai Metro Line 9 Set for April 7 Launch Amid Last-Minute Delays and Incomplete Station Work
Mumbai Metro Line 9 is set for April 7 launch after delays due to safety clearance, but incomplete work at key stations like Miragaon, Pandurangwadi, and Kashigaon raises concerns over readiness in Mira-Bhayander region.
Talking to reporters earlier, Sarnaik had said that the inauguration of the service got delayed due to certain factors. He stated, “We were waiting for the safety nod first, which we have received. Now the date is set for the inauguration of the route.” He further said that once this service starts, people in the region will be relieved as this was a long-pending demand.
The inauguration was originally supposed to take place on April 6 but has now been rescheduled to April 7. Despite the preparations, some work on Sunday morning was seen being incomplete, with final touches still pending at multiple stations.
At Miragaon Metro Station, the northern escalator was yet to be readied for public use. At Pandurangwadi Metro Station, the southern entrance and exit were also yet to be given final touches on Sunday morning. The station, located at Ketkipada on the Western Express Highway in Mira Road (East), has signage in place, signalling readiness for operations despite the pending work.
Kashigaon Metro Station opening has been delayed again as work remains incomplete, marking the third delay for its inauguration in Mira-Bhayander. On Monday, workers were seen cleaning and preparing the station for its inauguration. The station, which was scheduled to be opened to the public on Monday, April 6, has now seen its inauguration postponed for the third time, officials said.
Once operational, Metro Line 9 is expected to significantly enhance public transport options for residents of Dahisar, Mira Road and Bhayandar, offering a faster and more efficient travel alternative. The project, however, enters service under scrutiny as incomplete infrastructure at key points highlights the challenges in meeting deadlines for critical urban transit developments.
