Yellow Alert Across Telangana as IMD Warns of Thunderstorms, Lightning and Rising Heat
IMD Hyderabad issues a yellow alert across Telangana from April 3 to 7, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls amid rising temperatures above 40°C. Hyderabad may witness haze, rain, and gusty winds, prompting travel advisories for residents.
According to IMD Hyderabad, unstable weather conditions are expected across Telangana, prompting an advisory for residents to remain cautious and keep track of local forecasts before stepping out, particularly during afternoon and evening hours when storm activity may intensify. The weather office has cautioned that the combination of thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls could pose risks to both life and property during this period.
Even as rain and thunderstorm activity is forecast in the coming days, Telangana continues to experience intense heat. Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) shows that the mercury has already crossed 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the state. In Hyderabad, temperatures remained elevated, with the highest temperature touching 38 degrees Celsius, while Himayatnagar and Shaikpet recorded the warmest conditions in the city.
For Hyderabad, IMD has forecast hazy conditions until April 7, with early morning haze expected across all major zones, including Charminar, Khairathabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad and Serilingampally. In addition to the haze, the weather department has indicated that rain or thunderstorms along with gusty winds are expected in Hyderabad on April 6.
Authorities have advised residents to plan travel and outdoor movement carefully over the next few days, as thunderstorm activity is predicted in all districts of Telangana. The anticipated combination of lightning, squalls, and gusty winds is likely to affect commuting conditions in both urban and rural areas, particularly during sudden weather changes. Officials have urged the public to stay updated with official weather advisories as conditions continue to evolve through April 7, underscoring the potential impact of the developing weather system.
