Gas Pipeline Blast in Bihar's Muzaffarpur Kills One, Over 10 Injured
A powerful PNG gas pipeline explosion during drainage construction in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, killed one person and injured more than 10. A JCB and Poclain machine reportedly damaged the underground pipeline, triggering a gas leak and fire.
The explosion occurred while drainage construction work was underway on the road. During excavation, a JCB and a Poclain machine struck an underground piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline, damaging it. Gas began leaking rapidly from the damaged pipeline, followed by a powerful explosion within a short time.
One young man died in the incident, while two people suffered serious burn injuries. According to preliminary information, more than 10 people were injured. All the injured were rushed to hospitals for medical treatment.
The impact of the explosion was so intense that windowpanes in nearby houses shattered. A house in the locality also caught fire following the blast. The sudden explosion triggered panic across the area, with people present at the site running in different directions to save their lives.
As soon as the incident was reported, fire brigade teams, senior officials from the Muzaffarpur district administration and police officers rushed to the spot. As a precautionary measure, authorities first evacuated the affected area to minimise the risks posed by the gas leak and the subsequent fire.
Following the evacuation, the gas company's technical team began the process of shutting down the pipeline's main valve and controlling the gas leakage.
Preliminary information indicates that the underground PNG pipeline was damaged during excavation work for the drainage project, triggering the gas leak and subsequent explosion. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway as authorities and technical teams work to bring the situation under control.
