Iranian Attacks Cause Heavy Damage to US Navy’s Main Bahrain Military Base

Iranian attacks have caused heavy damage to the US Navy’s main Bahrain base, prompting an assessment over repairs and personnel returning as strikes also hit US assets in Jordan.

The more than five-month-long conflict between the United States and Iran is becoming increasingly severe, with a major development now emerging over the damage caused to a key US military facility in Bahrain.

According to a report by The Hill, Iranian attacks have caused heavy damage to the US Navy’s main military base in Bahrain. Following the attack, the US Navy is assessing what should be done with the base and whether it should be repaired.

A senior US official, Kao, acknowledged the scale of the destruction in an interview with The Epoch Times. Accepting the severity of the attack, he said Iran had caused devastation in Bahrain.

The attack took place at Naval Support Activity Bahrain (NASB), which serves as the main headquarters of the US Navy’s Central Command and the US Fifth Fleet. The base has remained a target of Iran since the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran at the end of February.

The extent of the damage has raised questions over when US personnel will be able to return to the facility. During a town hall on August 31, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle made it clear that personnel would not be returning there for now. He said they were not even allowed to go back to retrieve their personal belongings.

Caudle said the Navy was not rushing to return to the base and that he wanted to be completely clear and honest about the situation. The Navy is now assessing whether the facility should be repaired.

The conflict between the United States and Iran has also affected other American military facilities across the region. According to a CBS News report, a ballistic missile attack by Iran on Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base damaged several US aircraft.

One A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft lost a wing, while around eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage. The aircraft were later repaired and returned to service. During the attack, the US military fired more than 30 Patriot missiles.

As the conflict has intensified, Iranian forces have also begun targeting US naval assets and shipping interests. Tensions escalated further after the United States attacked five Iranian oil tankers. US President Donald Trump personally confirmed Washington’s role and warned that such attacks would continue.

The damage to the Bahrain naval facility, along with attacks affecting US aircraft and shipping interests elsewhere in the region, has added another major dimension to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
