During the visit, India and Sri Lanka reached key outcomes, including MoUs for upgrading L70 guns and academic exchanges. Singh also inaugurated Indian-built Bailey bridges in cyclone-hit areas, while Sri Lanka assured India that it would respect the country’s security concerns.
The visit included the arrival of INS Udaygiri in Colombo and meetings between Rajnath Singh and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
The engagements also highlighted India’s Neighbourhood First approach, with equipment handovers forming part of the cooperation between the two countries. Plans for maritime training were also discussed during the visit.
The three-day Colombo visit brought defence cooperation, infrastructure support, academic engagement and maritime training into focus, reinforcing the range of areas covered by India-Sri Lanka bilateral ties.
