Ujjain Hanuman Idol Remains Firm as Road Widening Begins for Simhastha 2028

Ujjain authorities removed a temple structure around a 170-year-old standing Hanuman idol for Simhastha 2028 road widening, while officials denied attempts to shift the idol itself.

Authorities in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, removed the temple structure surrounding a standing Hanuman idol as part of a road-widening project ahead of the massive Simhastha 2028 festival. The road is being widened from 9 meters to 15 meters.

Social media videos showed devotees pulling ropes while machinery operated nearby, leading to claims that efforts had been made to shift the idol. However, SDM LN Garg clarified that no direct attempts were made to move the Hanuman idol itself, countering claims of failed efforts to relocate it.

Teams from IIT Indore and SGSITS will soon scan the foundation of the idol to assess its condition and structure. Meanwhile, authorities are preparing a new site nearby following the removal of the temple structure.

The standing Hanuman idol has remained at the location for 170 years and continues to hold significance for devotees, who have urged authorities to preserve it in place. Devotees have emphasized the idol's long history and its role as a source of solace.
