PMPML Bus Passes to Go Digital Within Three Months, Ending Long Queues
PMPML is developing an online system for monthly and other bus passes, allowing commuters to apply through smartphones or computers. The digital facility is expected to go live within three months, ending centre visits and queues.
The city bus operator has started developing an online system for issuing monthly and other types of bus passes, allowing passengers to complete the process using a smartphone or computer. The facility is expected to be introduced within the next three months.
The proposed system could make the process considerably easier for people who regularly depend on PMPML services. Students, senior citizens, women and daily commuters are among those likely to benefit from being able to apply remotely.
Currently, passengers seeking a pass have to visit authorised centres and complete the procedure physically. This often requires them to spend time travelling to a centre and waiting in queues, particularly during busy periods.
Under the new arrangement, eligible passengers will be able to apply for their required pass digitally instead of making a separate visit. PMPML also expects the move to reduce the administrative burden on personnel handling pass applications at centres.
PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Mahesh Awhad confirmed that work on the online facility is already in process.
He said the monthly pass service will go live within three months, with other pass categories also proposed to be brought under the digital system.
The initiative marks another step towards shifting PMPML’s passenger-facing services away from paper-based and centre-dependent procedures. Once operational, commuters will be able to access pass-related services from wherever they are, potentially making the process faster and more convenient.
