Meloni Government Makes History as Italy’s Longest-Serving Administration
Meloni’s center-right government has become Italy’s longest-serving administration, surpassing all 68 previous governments. The milestone comes as markets reward its stability, while critics question reforms ahead of elections by 2027.
The government, Italy’s first female-led administration since taking power in October 2022, reached the historic milestone as Meloni continued to defend her coalition’s record and shared political vision.
Speaking at a rally in Bari, Meloni credited the shared vision of Brothers of Italy, Lega, and Forza Italia for progress in jobs, finances, and global trust. She also acknowledged that more work remains to be done.
The government’s stability has also been rewarded by financial markets, which have responded with lower borrowing costs. The political achievement, however, comes amid criticism from opponents over limited reforms.
With elections looming by 2027, Meloni’s government now holds a record position in the republic’s history while facing continued scrutiny over its policy record and reform agenda.
