India Calls for Immediate De-escalation as West Asia Conflict Crosses 100-Day Mark Amid Renewed Israel-Iran Escalation
India has urged immediate de-escalation in West Asia as the Israel-Iran conflict crossed 100 days amid renewed military escalation. The Ministry of External Affairs warned of severe humanitarian, economic and energy impacts while calling for diplomacy, civilian protection and a peaceful resolution to restore regional stability.
The Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the latest developments, noting that the conflict, which has now lasted for more than 100 days, has caused immense human suffering and adversely affected the global economy and energy supplies.
In an official statement, the Ministry said, “India deeply regrets the renewed attacks in West Asia. These developments are a matter of utmost concern to the international community. This conflict has now lasted over 100 days and has already caused immense human suffering. It has also had a debilitating impact on the global economy and energy supplies.”
The statement further emphasized the need for restraint and diplomacy, saying, “We call on all parties to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure that civilians are not harmed and conclude ongoing negotiations for a diplomatic solution so that peace and stability can return to the region.”
India’s appeal for peace came against the backdrop of significant military escalation across West Asia over the past 24 hours. The region witnessed multi-city military engagements, airstrikes targeting strategic installations, and heavy exchanges of projectiles, raising fears of a broader confrontation.
Marking the 100th day of their war, Israel and Iran exchanged fire on Monday, placing an already fragile truce under severe strain and threatening to trigger a renewed regional conflict. The latest hostilities intensified concerns over the stability of the wider Middle East and the prospects for a lasting ceasefire.
Further complicating the regional security situation, the Iran-backed Houthis announced a ban on Israeli shipping through the Red Sea, one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes. The move added a new dimension to growing concerns regarding maritime security and international commerce.
The latest round of military operations included an attack on an Iranian petrochemical complex and what Iran’s Revolutionary Guard described as strikes targeting two Israeli military bases. These developments occurred only hours after reports indicated that United States President Donald Trump had urged Israel to refrain from retaliatory action following missile attacks from Tehran.
The deterioration of the cross-border truce framework accelerated after Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday. Iran subsequently launched a retaliatory strike against Israel, leading to further attacks and counterattacks on Monday and deepening the crisis.
The sudden resurgence of hostilities has cast serious doubts over ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at permanently ending the conflict, which began on February 28. The latest military escalation threatens to undermine President Trump’s efforts to secure a negotiated settlement, including a comprehensive nuclear agreement with Tehran, at a time when regional stability remains under intense pressure.
As the conflict enters a critical phase, India’s renewed call for restraint, civilian protection and diplomatic engagement underscores growing international concern over the humanitarian, economic and security consequences of continued escalation across West Asia.
