India–United States Army Staff Talks in Hawaii Reinforce Expanding Defence Partnership Across Indo-Pacific
The 29th India–US Army Staff Talks in Hawaii highlighted deepening defence cooperation, enhanced interoperability, and expanding military exchanges. Co-chaired by senior military leaders, the discussions reinforced strategic alignment, supported Indo-Pacific security priorities, and followed key diplomatic engagements between both nations across defence and security frameworks.
The discussions were co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategy), and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Pacific. Both sides engaged in wide-ranging deliberations focused on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing interoperability between the armed forces, expanding professional military exchanges, and deepening operational collaboration in support of shared security interests.
The Indian Army, in a statement shared on the social media platform X, highlighted that both sides acknowledged the expanding scope of Army-to-Army engagements and reiterated their commitment to further strengthening the India–United States strategic partnership. The statement underscored that the discussions reflected growing alignment in defence priorities and operational coordination between the two militaries.
In a parallel diplomatic engagement last week, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met United States House Armed Services Committee member Pat Harrigan, who led a bipartisan Congressional Delegation in Singapore. The discussions centred on regional security challenges, expansion of defence cooperation, and advancement of shared strategic interests across the Indo-Pacific region. The Ministry of Defence noted that the interaction reaffirmed the strength of the India–United States defence partnership and highlighted continued collaboration on strategic priorities.
Earlier, on May 24, United States Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio held discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi. The meeting focused on defence cooperation, security coordination, and strategic technology collaboration, including the TRUST initiative. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides reiterated the high priority accorded to the India–United States Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on key regional and global developments.
Collectively, these high-level military and diplomatic engagements underscore an accelerated trajectory in India–United States defence relations, reflecting deepening trust, expanding interoperability, and a shared commitment to stability and security across the Indo-Pacific region.
