VinFast Bets on Ownership Confidence to Accelerate EV Adoption in India

VinFast showcased its long-term electric mobility strategy at the Global Business Conference in Vietnam, emphasizing aftersales support, charging infrastructure, ownership confidence, and customer incentives. Indian delegates witnessed the company's manufacturing capabilities, ecosystem development, and expanding service network aimed at accelerating electric vehicle adoption in India.

As electric vehicle adoption gathers momentum across India, concerns over battery life, resale value, charging infrastructure, and long-term reliability continue to influence consumer decisions. Addressing these challenges head-on, Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has unveiled an ambitious strategy focused not only on vehicle sales but also on building a comprehensive ownership ecosystem designed to strengthen customer confidence over the long term.

The company's approach emerged as a key theme during the VinFast Global Business Conference held in Vietnam in May, where more than 200 partners, investors, and aftersales operators from several countries, including India, participated in an extensive week-long program. Delegates toured VinFast's manufacturing facilities, visited service workshops, attended strategic discussions, and explored the broader ecosystem developed by Vingroup, Vietnam's largest private conglomerate.

The conference came at a time when interest in electric vehicles is steadily rising in India. Recent survey findings indicate that three out of ten Indians consider life unimaginable without a car, while 46 percent prefer vehicle ownership even when it is not strictly necessary. At the same time, approximately 63 percent of respondents expressed interest in adopting electric vehicles, including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, within the next five years.

Despite growing enthusiasm, industry experts acknowledge that concerns surrounding battery durability, vehicle reliability, and future resale value remain among the most significant barriers to widespread adoption. These challenges are particularly relevant for newer automotive brands working to establish long-term trust in emerging markets.

Against this backdrop, VinFast used the conference to demonstrate its commitment to building a complete ownership ecosystem. Rather than concentrating solely on vehicle specifications or showroom expansion, the company highlighted investments in charging infrastructure, service networks, maintenance capabilities, technician training, and customer support programs.

Rishav Kumar Choudhary, Managing Director of JP Emobility India, said VinFast stands apart from many manufacturers because of its emphasis on creating a complete ecosystem around electric mobility. He noted that the company is focusing not only on vehicle sales but also on the infrastructure required to support ownership, including charging facilities, aftersales services, resale value assurance, and long-term customer confidence.

The issue of aftersales support received particular attention during the conference. While electric vehicle launches have accelerated across India in recent years, access to charging facilities, maintenance services, and ownership support continues to vary significantly between regions. For service partners and workshop operators, investments in electric vehicle tools, training, and infrastructure can carry substantial risks if manufacturers lack a long-term commitment to the market.

To address these concerns, VinFast outlined plans to expand its global aftersales network to more than 1,100 service workshops by 2026. The expansion will be supported by standardized technician training programs, quality control systems, and spare parts supply commitments designed to ensure rapid delivery in key markets.

Simultaneously, the company is strengthening its broader electric mobility ecosystem through charging partnerships, mobility services, and customer support initiatives. In India, VinFast's partner V-Green is expanding charging accessibility through collaborations with HPCL and RoadGrid, leveraging HPCL's extensive network of more than 24,400 fuel stations across the country.

The company has also introduced several ownership incentives aimed at reducing consumer concerns. These include free charging until March 31, 2029, three years of complimentary maintenance, 10-year battery warranties, financial assistance for customers transitioning from conventional gasoline-powered vehicles to electric vehicles, and a value assurance buyback program covering up to 75 percent of vehicle value to help preserve resale confidence.

Sweta Choudhary, Director of JP Emobility India, described the free charging, battery warranty, and vehicle warranty programs as highly attractive offerings rarely provided by international automotive brands.

Delegates gained first-hand exposure to VinFast's ecosystem throughout the visit. VinFast vehicles were widely visible across Hanoi, Hai Phong, and other cities, operating as private vehicles as well as within transportation and fleet services. Participants also toured several facilities within VinFast's network of more than 400 service workshops and attended sessions focused on global service expansion and operational support.

One of the highlights of the conference was a visit to VinFast's manufacturing complex in Hai Phong. Delegates observed advanced automation systems, robotics, and integrated production lines operating throughout the facility.

Shailesh Borse, Vice President at MyTVS India, described the facility as highly impressive, noting that more than 90 percent automation and advanced technologies reflected a modern manufacturing infrastructure.

The visit also provided international delegates with a broader understanding of the role played by Vingroup in supporting VinFast's growth. Through affiliated companies such as V-Green, the conglomerate is developing charging and mobility infrastructure in Vietnam and expanding those capabilities into international markets.

Within Vietnam, V-Green is building a charging network comprising approximately 150,000 charging ports nationwide. The network is designed to maintain an average distance of about 3.5 kilometers between charging stations in urban areas and approximately 65 kilometers across 106 national highways and expressways.

For Sweta Choudhary, the experience extended beyond the automotive sector. She highlighted Vingroup's presence across healthcare, technology, robotics, and numerous other industries, describing the conglomerate as a transformative force across multiple aspects of Vietnamese society and expressing pride in partnering with the group as it expands into mobility solutions.

The conference concluded with a significant milestone for VinFast's international expansion strategy. Nearly 30 new international aftersales partners signed Memoranda of Understanding across India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Kazakhstan. Indian companies participating in the agreements included Gopinath Motor, PPS Auto LLP, Aarna Trading, Haritash, and YouWee, further strengthening VinFast's growing service and support network in the Indian market.

Industry participants left the event expressing confidence in the company's long-term vision. According to Shailesh Borse of MyTVS India, Vingroup's commitment to infrastructure development and service excellence positions it to make a meaningful contribution to India's automotive sector as electric mobility continues its rapid evolution. Through its focus on ownership confidence, extensive aftersales support, and large-scale ecosystem development, VinFast is seeking to address some of the most persistent concerns surrounding electric vehicle adoption and establish a stronger foothold in one of the world's fastest-growing automotive markets.
