GOA STATEHOOD DAY DRAWS BIPARTISAN TRIBUTES AS NATIONAL LEADERS CELEBRATE STATE’S LEGACY
National leaders across political parties united in celebrating Goa Statehood Day, honoring the state's culture, heritage, and development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid tribute, while official celebrations in Panaji highlighted Goa’s journey since its liberation in 1961.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his wishes to the people of Goa, praising the state's vibrant culture, historical heritage, and natural beauty. He expressed hope for the continued prosperity of Goa and its contribution to the vision of a developed India.
Senior opposition leaders also joined in commemorating the occasion. Rahul Gandhi highlighted Goa’s history and spirit of harmony, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the state's achievements and credited former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for his role in securing statehood for Goa. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging Goa’s progress and its unique place in the country’s social and cultural landscape.
The official celebrations were marked by the participation of Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who attended Statehood Day events in Panaji. The main function featured the release of commemorative postage stamps and exhibitions showcasing Goa’s historical and developmental milestones.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant used the occasion to call for the preservation of Goa’s identity while pursuing economic growth and modernization. He stressed the importance of balancing development with the protection of the state's cultural and social character.
The nationwide tributes reflected a shared recognition of Goa’s resilient journey since its liberation from Portuguese rule in 1961. As leaders from across the political spectrum honored the occasion, the celebrations highlighted Goa’s continued role as a symbol of heritage, unity, and progress within the Indian Union.
