Newborn Abandoned in Rajawadi Hospital Bathroom Sparks Emergency Rescue in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar; Infant Saved After Swift Medical Response
A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the bathroom of Rajawadi Hospital in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar, prompting an emergency rescue by police and hospital staff. The infant was shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and is now stable. Police have registered a case against an unidentified woman and launched a CCTV-based investigation.
According to reports, a distressed young man, Vishnu Shriram Patel, first alerted authorities after hearing persistent cries coming from a bathroom located outside Ward No. 40. He informed officials that a newborn infant was lying inside the bathroom and crying without pause.
Police Constable Jitendra Vishnu Patil, attached to Tilak Nagar Police Station, was on duty at the hospital’s casualty department on the night of May 25 when he received the alert at around 9 pm. He promptly rushed to the location and found a newborn male infant lying helplessly on the cold bathroom floor.
Hospital nursing staff were immediately called to the scene. With the assistance of nurses and the individual who raised the alarm, the infant was rescued, cleaned, and transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for urgent medical care.
Doctors later confirmed that timely intervention played a crucial role in saving the newborn’s life and stated that the infant’s condition remains stable under medical supervision.
Preliminary checks conducted by police revealed that there was no record in hospital registers indicating any delivery during the relevant time period. Based on this finding, investigators suspect that an unidentified woman may have delivered the baby inside the hospital bathroom and abandoned him before leaving the premises.
Following the discovery, the Tilak Nagar Police have registered a case against an unidentified woman and initiated a search operation. CCTV footage from various sections of Rajawadi Hospital is being thoroughly examined to identify and trace the individual responsible for abandoning the newborn.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with dedicated teams actively working to locate the woman and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The newborn continues to receive intensive medical care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and remains in stable condition, while the case highlights urgent concerns regarding neonatal safety and hospital security protocols.
