Air India Launches Major Fleet and Service Overhaul to Deliver Enhanced Passenger Comfort and Seamless Travel Experience
Air India has launched a major upgrade programme covering cabin refurbishment, improved seating, increased legroom, advanced in-flight entertainment, and digital airport services. The airline is also enhancing its loyalty rewards system, enabling easier point redemption for upgrades, bookings, lounges, and partner airline benefits under Star Alliance.
The airline is currently modernising the cabin interiors of its older aircraft, installing newly designed, more comfortable seating configurations aimed at improving passenger relaxation on both short and long-haul routes. Along with upgraded seating, Air India is increasing legroom to offer passengers greater personal space, particularly benefiting those undertaking long-duration international flights. The refurbishment programme also includes the introduction of advanced in-flight entertainment systems, designed to deliver a more engaging and improved onboard experience.
Beyond cabin enhancements, Air India is implementing widespread improvements across more than 28 passenger touchpoints throughout the travel journey. These upgrades span the entire process, including ticket booking, check-in, security screening, boarding, and baggage handling. To reduce congestion and minimise waiting times at airports, the airline is expanding digital self-service facilities such as automated kiosks and self bag-drop systems, enabling faster and more efficient passenger processing.
In addition to operational improvements, Air India is strengthening its loyalty and rewards ecosystem. The upgraded programme will allow passengers to redeem reward points more easily for ticket bookings as well as cabin upgrades from economy to business class. As part of the Star Alliance network, these reward points will also be applicable across more than 25 international partner airlines. The airline further plans to extend the utility of these points in the future for airport lounge access, additional baggage allowances, and services offered by partner hotels.
With this large-scale transformation, Air India aims to redefine its service standards by enhancing seating comfort, expanding digital convenience, and offering a more integrated and rewarding travel experience across the entire passenger journey.
