BJP Announces Major Organizational Reshuffle, Appoints New State Presidents Across Four Regions
The BJP has undertaken a major organizational reshuffle, appointing new state presidents in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Tripura. Harsh Malhotra becomes Delhi BJP chief, while Gyan Singh Dhillon takes charge in Punjab. The changes aim to strengthen the party ahead of upcoming elections and reinforce state-level leadership structures.
In the national capital, Harsh Malhotra has been appointed as the new Delhi BJP state president. Malhotra, who represents East Delhi as a Member of Parliament, is also a Minister of State in the Union Council of Ministers, holding the portfolio of Road Transport. He will replace Virendra Sachdeva as the party’s Delhi unit chief.
In Punjab, where Assembly elections are scheduled for next year and less than a year remains for the polls, the party has appointed Gyan Singh Dhillon as the new state president, replacing Sunil Jakhar. The leadership change is being viewed as a strategic move by the BJP in the Sikh-majority state, with Dhillon recognized as a prominent Sikh political figure who has previously been associated with the Congress party. He will now lead the party’s organizational efforts in Punjab.
In Haryana, the BJP has also named a new state president as part of the restructuring exercise, marking another key shift in its regional leadership framework ahead of upcoming political challenges.
In Tripura, the party has appointed Abhishek Debroy as the new state president. Debroy is a sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly in Tripura and was elected for the first time on a BJP ticket in the 2023 state elections. His appointment signals the party’s intent to strengthen its organizational structure and grassroots presence in the northeastern state.
The sweeping leadership changes across multiple regions highlight the BJP’s strategic focus on strengthening its state-level organization ahead of upcoming electoral battles, with an emphasis on experienced leadership and regional political balance.
