Rohit Sood Secures Presidency of PHHC Bar Association with 96-Vote Victory in Closely Watched Election
Rohit Sood has been elected President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association after winning by 96 votes in the 2026 executive body elections. The election also saw new appointments for key posts including Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Women’s Member, highlighting major leadership changes and key manifesto-driven promises for lawyers’ welfare and infrastructure.
The election outcome was significantly influenced by the commitments outlined in Sood’s manifesto. A central promise of his campaign was the establishment of the Sarangpur Advocates’ Housing Society, which emerged as a key issue among the electorate. Another major concern addressed during his campaign was enhanced security arrangements for lawyers. In this regard, he formally communicated with the Chief Minister, who assured that necessary action would be initiated within six months.
Sood also proposed dedicated infrastructure improvements for young lawyers, including the designation of four separate and suitable consultation spaces within the High Court Library complex as well as across the Tri-City region, aimed at facilitating client interactions and professional discussions.
Alongside the presidential result, the election also confirmed other office bearers of the Association. Advocate Ashish Bishnoi was elected Vice President. Advocate Parmpreet Singh Bajwa, also known as Harry, who previously served as an Executive Bar Member and was recognized for his contributions to the Bar, was elected Secretary. Dr. Kirandeep Kaur assumed the position of Joint Secretary, while Advocate Ashish Rana was elected Treasurer. Advocate Kamla Malik was elected as the Women’s Member.
The newly elected leadership is expected to take charge of key administrative, welfare, and infrastructural priorities within the Bar Association, marking a significant phase in the representation and governance of legal professionals at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
