India to Lead High-Level Engagement at Second International Migration Review Forum in New York
India will participate in the Second International Migration Review Forum in New York, led by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh. The delegation will present India’s national statement, host a digital migration governance side event, and engage in global discussions on migration, SDGs, and policy coordination under the UN framework.
During the plenary session of the forum, Kirti Vardhan Singh will deliver India’s National Statement, outlining the country’s position and contributions on global migration governance. In addition to the main proceedings, India will also host a dedicated side event titled “Leveraging Digital Innovation in Migration Governance – The e-Migrate Experience of India,” highlighting the country’s digital approach to managing migration systems.
The IMRF functions as the principal intergovernmental global platform for reviewing progress in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and its linkages with the Sustainable Development Goals. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the forum will include four interactive multi-stakeholder round tables, a policy debate, and a plenary session, ensuring broad participation across governments and stakeholders.
The outcome of the forum is expected to be a formal progress declaration, reflecting collective global assessments and commitments. This second edition of the IMRF follows the inaugural forum held in 2022, in which India played an active role and contributed significantly to strengthening protections and advancing the interests of its migrant communities worldwide.
The participation of India in this global platform underscores its continued engagement in shaping international migration governance frameworks while reinforcing its commitment to safe and humane migration practices.
